In the time of battle and warfare, we are encouraged to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. We are then instructed to put on all of God’s armor so that we will be able to stand firm against all the strategies and devices of the devil. The word tells us that we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
It says this battle does not take place here on earth, but in the realms of the spirit in heavenly places. Since this is not an earthly battle, we can’t fight with weapons of this world. In order to win this fight, we must fight with our spiritual weapons and. What is the will of God Therefore, we are instructed to put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. We are made a promise that if we indeed put on the whole armor of God without missing any pieces of our armor, then after the battle we will still be standing firm. The first piece of armor is to put on the belt of truth and the second piece of God’s armor is the breastplate of righteousness.
Righteousness & Purity
Each part of God’s armor is used to protect certain areas in warfare. The breastplate of righteousness is worn to protect our hearts. The breastplate is given to us to keep our hearts from every attack of Satan. In warfare Satan wants to penetrate the most vital area of our lives and that is our heart. Without our hearts being covered by the breastplate and functioning properly in purity, we have no protection from the enemy. When our hearts are not right before God, our connection to God is severed. The Word of God tells us to guard our heart above all else, because it determines the course of our life. In order for us to protect our hearts from the evil one, we must seek after the righteousness of God that can purify our hearts.
In the Book of Romans it says God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Everyone has sinned and we have all fallen short of God’s glorious standard. We must receive our righteousness through our faith in Jesus Christ. Our righteousness comes through Jesus and his sacrifice for us on the cross.
The word teaches us to turn away from the sinful things young people want to do and to go after what is right. We are to have a desire for faith, love and peace and we are to do this with those who pray to God from a clean heart. The word of God also tells us to watch the company we keep by instructing us to not team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness and how can light live with darkness? In order for our hearts to stay purified we must pray daily and ask The Lord to create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. When our hearts are purified we hear from God. When our hearts are pure we can see God as well. Matthew 5:8 says blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
